One of the highlights of 2011 for me was attending the Deltic 50 event at the National Railway Museum, Shildon. This was a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the British Rail Class 55 Deltics’ introduction onto the East Coast Main Line (ECML).
It was over 35 years since I had seen the iconic DP1 DELTIC. The last time I had seen it was when, as a small boy, I had visited the Science Museum in London. Its sheer size, distinctive powder-blue livery and cream chevron markings on its huge nose made a lasting impression on me.
