At the formation of British Railways (BR) in 1948, early diesel and electric locomotives were already painted black with aluminium trim. By the late 1950s this had been superseded by a Brunswick green livery.

This collection contains an example of each class of locomotive, painted in the standard BR Brunswick green livery.
