50021
Rodney worked its last train in December 1989 and was withdrawn in April 1990 due to power unit damage, thereby becoming the 12th Class 50 locomotive to be withdrawn after over 21 years of active service. Engine hours stood at 6,814.
After its withdrawal, 50021 was stored at the
Mid Hants Railway. Its first permanent home in preservation came in late 1992 at the
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway. It resided here until 1995 when it was relocated to Scotland at the
Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway. For several years it remained here, but following a serious ETH generator failure it was transported south and stored at the
Birmingham Railway Museum at Tyseley in 2002.
In 2014, 50021 was bought by a private individual and relocated to Eastleigh. Here it underwent a painstaking thorough restoration lasting many years which were finally completed in 2023.
