50031 Hood and 50049 Defiance stabled at Derby during The Yorkshire Royale tour run by Pathfinder Tours. The locomotives worked from Cardiff to Derby before being replaced by LMS locomotive 6233 Duchess of Sutherland for the steam-hauled part of the tour.

The destination for the tour was York. The Class 50s took over from the steam locomotive upon its return to Derby for the remainder of the journey back to Cardiff.
