50050
Fearless at different stages during The Cumbrian Mountaineer tour by
Vintage Trains. It was the first time since 2016 that the locomotive had been used on a railtour.
The tour started at Tyseley Warwick Road and headed north going over the famous Settle-Carlisle line, returning by the same route. Total distance covered by the Class 50 was 462 miles for the one-day trip.
Locomotive 47773, was used as tail-gunner throughout the tour as insurance against a mainline failure. This proved to be a prudent measure since on the return 50050 came to a rest just south of Garsdale with coolant issues and had to be assisted. Luckily the issue was rectified and 50050 completed the rest of the tour.
