Whilst operating with British Rail (BR) all locomotives had a locomotive repair book placed in one of the cabs. In these, drivers would list problems or faults they had found with a locomotive whilst in service requiring rectification by maintenance staff back at a depot.
This example is the penultimate one issued to 50024 Vanguard in December 1990. Several entries mention various fuel leak problems which possibly led to the bogie fire a few days after the last entry in this book, resulting in it being withdrawn from service.
