50031 Hood and 50049 Defiance at different stages during the Arriva Trains Wales celebrations to mark the end of locomotive-hauled service trains on the Cardiff to Rhymney valley commuter route. The line saw hourly special farewell trips between Cardiff and Rhymney using several different classes of locomotive associated with the route, mostly running in a top-'n'-tail formation.

The presence of the Class 50s at the extravaganza was requested in view of the fact that locomotives from The Fifty Fund had worked the route back in 1998.
