Defiance at different stages during The Devonshire Riviera Express tour run by Steamy Affairs. The locomotives worked from Northampton to Bristol before being replaced by LNER locomotive 60009
Union of South Africa for the steam-hauled part of the tour.
The destination for the tour was Kingswear, which was reached by running over the preserved-line tracks of the
Dartmouth Steam Railway. The Class 50s went ahead light-engine from Bristol but had to be used again on the outward leg as banking engines on the steep incline between Paignton and Kingswear. From here, they took over proper from the steam locomotive for the return journey to Northampton via the Berks and Hants route.
